First broadcast in February 2021…
It’s episode 12 of the podcast, and I’ve already been invited in to the Weller family home!
Special guest, Nicky Weller – the blood, sweat and tears behind both The Jam and The Style Council Fan Clubs – along with the fabulous About The Young Idea – The Jam Exhibition.
Nicky also happens to be sister to Mr Paul Weller (our end goal for this podcast series!).
On this episode, we hear Nicky talking about family life, growing up as a Weller, the early days in Stanley Road, Woking and The Jam, The Style Council, Solo, On Sunset and so much more… We even discover what Paul is watching on Netflix,
Nicky Weller’s insights into her father’s role as the band’s manager sheds light on the negotiations with record labels and the no-nonsense approach he brought from the building trade.
I also loved the personal memories, such as meeting David Bowie at the British Rock and Pop Awards in 1980…
At the time of recording, the interview touches on the challenges faced in 2020, including canceled events – (the Brighton exhibition which would end up happening in the summer of 2022) and uncertainties in the music industry due to the pandemic.
We even help Nicky and Paul’s mum, Ann Weller to find her knitting!
