Episode 90: Barrie Cadogan AKA Little Barrie talks 22 Dreams, supporting Paul Weller and more…

Barrie Cadogan is not only one of the most talented and well-respected guitarists around, having played with Primal Scream, Johnny Marr, The The, Steve Mason, Texas and, of course, Paul Weller – but he also fronts his own band – Little Barrie.

A classic British power trio in the lineage of Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Little Barrie started off as a solo guise for Barrie, using the nickname given to him aged 14 by a mate’s dad in Nottingham.

The band first supported Paul Weller in 2002 – with gigs including the Birmingham NEC and Hyde Park’s Route of Kings. Barrie has played on Paul’s albums – 22 Dreams, Wake Up The Nation and True Meanings whilst also joining the Weller live line up on numerous occasions for gigs and radio sessions.

Little Barrie also wrote the theme tune for the acclaimed ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off series, ‘Better Call Saul‘.

Little Barrie’s Recordings & Performances with Paul Weller

2008 – 22 Dreams

Paul is quoted as saying… “Little Barrie and his band came down to the studio and played on this one. It’s a rocking tune. I like the idea of collaborating with new people. If you listen to the lyric there’s an explanation as to why there’s only 21 tracks on the album. I need to keep one for myself!”
Barrie plays guitar with Lewis Wharton on Bass and the band’s original drummer, Billy Skinner on drums.

2008 – BBC Four Sessions

Released on the DVD Just a Dream – 22 Dreams Live – Barrie is credited as Mr Little Barrie.

2010 Wake Up The Nation

The album opens with Moonshine – an absolute banger of a tune with Barrie on guitar, Andy Crofts on bass and Bev Bevan on drums. Barrie also plays guitar and bass on the album closer – Two Fat Ladies.

2010 A Night with Annie Nightingale

Annie Nightingale celebrated 4 Decades on Radio 1 with a live tribute concert from the legendary studio 3 at Maida Vale studios, with a lineup that some festivals would be envious of: Tinchy Stryder, DC BReaks, Sub Focus, Freestylers, Professor Green, I Blame Coco, Booka Shade, Fatboy Slim, and finally, Primal Scream (including Barrie Cadogan), with Paul Weller!

2017 – Radio 2 Session

Barrie joined the band for a Radio Session on Ken Bruce’s radio show playing Woo Sé Mama & The Cranes Are Back from the album A Kind Revolution and a version of The Style Council’s My Ever Changing Moods.

2018 – True Meanings

Barrie plays Lead Guitar on Side 2 opener – Old Castles.
