Show Notes

SEB LOWE – SUPPORTING PAUL WELLER THIS SUMMER
Paul Weller has announced three Forest gigs in June with a reveal of the support acts over the past couple of weeks too. The brilliant Seb Lowe will be supporting. A rising independent alternative artist from Oldham, his 2022 mini-album, The Other Half was released on the same week that he confirmed his debut Glastonbury Festival appearance! His new single is called The London Song…

FAR FROM SAINTS (inc Kelly Jones) – SPECIAL GUESTS OF PAUL WELLER THIS SUMMER
Also announced as joining those dates as a very special guest is Kelly Jones’ new band Far from Saints!
Kelly has teamed up with Patty Lynn and Dwight Baker of Austin band The Wind And The Wave to co-write an as-yet-untitled album. 2023 has seen the new group release their debut single, ‘Let’s Turn This Back Around’ – here’s the video, directed by Kelly.

Here’s that performance from Paul and Kelly at London’s Royal Albert Hall with The Eton Rifles.

EDGAR JONES – PART OF THE HELIOCENTRIC LIVE BAND
Edgar was my special guest on Episode 123 of the podcast back in November (listen here).
His first release for brand new Steropar record label is the single Torture, which will be released on 14th April.
In a very Weller esque way of The Jam and The Style council – that song is a stand alone single that doesn’t feature on the album – Reflections of a Soul Dimension – which comes out just two weeks later.
You can pre-order here.

MOLLIE MARRIOTT – WELLER COLLABORATOR
Singer/songwriter Mollie Marriott, collaborated with Paul Weller on her debut album back in 2017 – the album’s title track “Truth Is A Wolf” and also “King Of Hearts” on which he played Hammond organ and guitar. Her new single – Trouble and Shame has just been released on Spotify Apple and YouTube.
Hear it on my show above. In the meantime, here’s one of those Weller collaborations.

GAZ COOMBES – WELLER COLLABORATOR
Gaz was part of The Christmas Tree sessions with Paul Weller at Union Chapel in 2013 and played with Paul on the Crisis Consequences single in 2008… a song written by Paul and Gaz with Beth Ditto and Danny Goffey from Supergrass and producer Paul Epworth…
The new album from Gaz Coombes is called Turn the Car Around. Find out more here.
Here’s the Crisis single that I mentioned with Paul and Gaz.

CRAIG GOULD – LEE COGSWELL , FILM-MAKER ON BASS
British folk artist Craig Gould releases his debut solo album in April – Songs from the campfire.
Cast your mind back to Episode 5 of the podcast. Film Maker – Lee Cogswell from Mono Media was my guest – one of the fellas – Bax being the other one – behind all those brilliant – behind the scenes making of album documentaries for Paul Weller – he also created The Style Council documentary.
Lee is also a talented musician and he plays bass on 3 of the tracks on Craig’s album – he’ll also be part of the live band too.

TEENAGE WAITRESS – SUPPORTED PAUL ON TOUR, RECORDED AT BLACK BARN
Daniel J Ash AKA Teenage Waitress joined the podcast way back in January 2021 – Episode 8 – can you believe it? We heard about his love of Weller as a fan and Daniel shared tales of meeting his hero, supporting Paul on tour, creating music at Black Barn and more!
His new album ‘Your Cuckoo’ has just been announced for release on 9th June – and it is available for pre order now – all the usual formats – including a limited edition solid green vinyl – all on Andy Crofts’ Colorama Records label… Find out more info here

Teenage Waitress will also be performing at an event that has a nice link to my podcast.
It’s the book launch for Every Ticket Tells a Story – by Stuart Deabill (Episode 1) and Mark ‘Bax’ Baxter (Episode 2) on Thursday 27th April at The Water Rats in London… Info here.

HAGUE & WHITE (INCLUDING LEGENDARY DRUMMER, STEVE WHITE)
Musical collaborators Chris Hague, Joel White and legendary drummer and drummer, Steve White (our obvious Weller connection) have revealed a lovely new tune called Out Here on My Own.
Steve tells me that the band are hoping to secure a physical release this year of both their first album the 11th hour and a second album is already nearly complete. They are also currently working on the score and soundtrack for another show airing in September….

NIA WYN – SUPPORTED PAUL WELLER ON TOUR, WELLER COLLABORATOR
Nia has supported Paul Weller on tour and her single Turnstiles was produced by Paul in his Surrey studio.
Her voice is amazing – totally unique. Yet to hear a song from her that isn’t terrific.
Her new single – Tough Love – is her first self-produced single. Find out more about Nia on Bandcamp here.
Here’s that Weller produced 2018 single – Turnstiles too.

ERLAND COOPER – SUPPORTED PAUL WELLER ON TOUR, WELLER COLLABORATOR
I first saw Erland Cooper with his band – The Carnival, supporting Paul in 2009/10 and I have been a fan ever since. Erland co-wrote Bowie, Wishing Well and White Horses on Paul’s album True Meanings, whilst also providing backing vocals on those tracks and on Aspects.
A hugely talented composer – his new studio album, Folded Landscapes is available to pre-order now for release on 5th May.
A collaboration with Scottish Ensemble – a collective of exceptional musicians championing music for strings – check out Movement 5 – Pt.2 and he has also just announce live dates for May and September.

STEVE MASON
Steve is another huge talent – with Weller connections from supporting him live to remixing Wishing on a Star around Studio 150 release. His brand new album – Brothers and Sisters has just been released (March 3rd 2023). Check out more info at stevemasontheartist.com

DAMON ALBARN (GORILLAZ)
New music from Damon Albarn is always a real treat and the latest Gorillaz album – Cracker Island – is an astonishing piece of work… just outstanding!. Find more info at gorillaz.com
I share a bunch of Weller connections in my MixCloud show (one of which is below) plus Paul has just been announced as a special guest for one of Damon’s other bands (Blur , you may have heard of them) for this Summer at Wembley Stadium.
Here’s that lovely cover of BlackBird that I mentioned on my MixCloud show…
